Linda Ann Goodner, "Linda Mac" or "Mac", was the eldest of two sisters (Dorothy Ray) and older sister to a brother, Frankie Kelley. She was born Linda Ann Chandler in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on July 3, 1949 to Marie and Garvin Chandler. But, she loved her larger extended family of Melvin Stover, Wanda Ledbetter, G.W. Kelley, Terry Kelley and Tonya Greenlees. She was preceded in death by Dorothy Ray and Frankie Kelley.
Her work ethic was rivaled by none. By the age of 12, Linda was working as a carhop and was a star twirler at Wynnewood High School, even as a young mother. She passed away on February 17, 2021 at her home. The world has lost the brightest of fireworks.
She made her home in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1972, hired by Roy D. Goodner. Her career at Goodner’s would last 35 years. She would become a bookkeeper, office manager and personal assistant to Thomas D. Goodner, eventually handling all of the accounting. In 1998 she was elected as the President of the National Women's Grocers' Association. She took the lead for designing and decorating all of the Goodner’s stores and restaurants, and developed Photo Finish, a full floral department and the deli and bakery at the stores.
Upon moving to Duncan, Linda was blessed with a son, Jerry Dale Goodson, of Duncan, and a daughter, Dena (McElhaney) Light, of Dallas. She was the all star of single moms, making sure her son was able to excel in football and water sports and her daughter attended a private academy in Dallas, Texas. She was the proudest grandparent to Thomas David Strong (Stillwater), Emma Strong (University of Arkansas), Audrey Goodson (University of Oklahoma) and Graham Goodson (Duncan). The Goodner’s office quickly became a nursery and playground for her grandchildren.
After the death of his wife in 1985, Tom Goodner and Linda married in December of 1988. Their 25-year marriage ended in his death. Tom and Linda loved to work and travel as a family, going on cruises, to traveling to Hawaii and to Disney World. The family continued their travels to Hawaii and Disney World even after the passing of Tom. Daughter-in-law Daphne Goodson passed away in 2020. Son-in-law Kevin Light passed away in 2018.
Linda was a diehard Sooner fan. She never missed a home game and lived for the Red River Rivalry. When she was no longer able to attend the games in person, Saturdays were still devoted to football. Her family and friends knew better than to disturb her on a game day. When her grandson, Thomas David, decide to attend OSU, Linda added the OSU roster to her game day fare. However, there was never a doubt that she was a loyal Sooner for Bedlam games.
Linda never forgot her humble beginnings. She was always giving to others. She was adopted into the Goodner staff family and by Thelma Dillard. She was a sister to the Hooten family from the day she moved to Duncan until her passing. She was always thankful for her blessings. She was a blessing to every life she touched.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, February 22, at 11:00 A.M. in the First Christian Church Gathering Hall with Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
