Divinity: Original Sin 2 – How To Get The Contamination Armor & What It Does (2024)

For a caustic and brutal set of gear in Divinity: Original Sin 2, players should seek out the plated pieces Contamination Armor, which is composed of 5 different bits of equipment: the Boots of Contamination, the Greaves of Contamination, the Gauntlets of Contamination, the Cuirass of Contamination, and the Helm of Contamination.

Players must collect information during a specific quest in Divinity: Original Sin 2 in order to find the pieces of the Contamination Set. They should read the notes that are found during the quest "Seed of Power," as this is where their first hint on this treasure hunt can be found following meeting the elf Daeyena. The quest to obtain this armor is a memorable one, and players will be rewarded for their efforts with one of the most unique armor sets in the game.

Updated August 1, 2023, by Ritwik Mitra: Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the greatest video games ever made. This CRPG blew everyone's mind when it was launched because of its massive scope, tactical combat, and role-playing elements that put most major titles to shame. Players could approach this title in whatever manner they saw fit, allowing for immense replayability as they tackled events in a different order and figured out the best course of action they could take to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and everything in between.

If the content in the base game wasn't enough to satiate fans, players were also rewarded with a wealth of DLCs and updates from Larian Entertainment. This included the addition of new armor sets that players could find to boost their abilities. The Contamination Armor in DOS 2 was one of the most interesting. Players who may struggle to find this armor will be well-serviced by a guide that can take care of the harder parts for them.

Where To Find The Contamination Armor

Step 1 (Fort Joy): Find The Boots & Greaves On A Shipwreck

To start the Seed of Power quest, head to Fort Joy along the coast. On the beach, there will be a shipwreck upon which the player will find magisters and an elf named Daeyena locked in combat. Regardless of the player's actions, Daeyena is the one in possession of the Boots and Greaves of Contamination.

Help Daeyena defeat the magisters, and then get an elf party member to eat part of one of the magisters to learn the Trigger Spores skill, which will be important for the rest of this quest. Here, the player and Daeyena will part ways, and she will stay in possession of the Boots and Greaves of Contamination...for now.

Step 2 (Reaper's Coast): Create The Gauntlets By Using Trigger Spores

Further along in the quest, players can reunite with Daeyena along the Reaper's Coast, where she will show the player how the Contamination Armor is made, by using Trigger Spores on another enemy magister to kill them and create the Gauntlets of Contamination. Here, the player can fight Daeyena and take the 3 pieces of Contamination Armor from her before moving on to find the next pieces.

Step 3 (Reaper's Coast): Head To The Blackpits To Find The Cuirass

On a hill overlooking the Blackpits, there will be a magister with the Cuirass of Contamination. Players can potentially steal it from them if they do not want a confrontation, though combat is an equally viable method. Players can loot the Cuirass from the corpse of the magister when they have been slain.

Step 4 (Arx): Enter Reimond's Basem*nt For The Helm

Near Reimond's abode, there will be a sneaky trapdoor hidden among some bushes which the player can enter to discover a research laboratory. Inside there will be enemies ready to brawl; however, once they are defeated, the player can loot the Helm of Contamination from them to complete the set.

Contamination Armor Set Bonus: Rooting Corruption

In addition to all the powerful boons of the Contamination Armor in DOS 2, there is also a set bonus that applies when one has equipped all pieces simultaneously.

In addition to the other gains to Poison Resistance, Rooting Corruption adds another +75% Poison Resistance, and the equipped character now bleeds poison. On top of this, once per turn, if the wearer is struck by a physical attack, they will launch a poisonous projectile in the direction that they are facing in a wicked counterattack.

Best Builds For The Contamination Armor

Venomous Sentry Build

This build is one for those playing as a ranger, as it makes use of many mid and long-distance attacks. Wearing the Contamination Armor in Divinity Original Sin 2 will make one a lot less squishy than many other ranged builds. The goal of becoming a Venomous Sentry is to lay down as much poison on the battlefield as possible, while barraging foes with caustic projectile attacks. Since the set bonus of the Contamination Armor helps with spreading poison on the ground and automatically launches venomous projectiles, players wearing it have a great starting point.

Talents like Elemental Ranger, combined with skills such as Reactive Shots, can make this build an acid-spitting turret. By covering the area enemies are standing with poison, they will be forced to move, which will trigger Reactive Shots to automatically launch a few basic attacks at enemies in range who try to get out of the poison. This is where Elemental Ranger comes in, as it applies a bonus of 20% elemental damage onto projectiles, allowing one to stack poisonous effects even higher.

Scourge Wizard Build

For those wishing to kill foes even faster than normal, players seeking a solid poison build should try out a Scourge Wizard, which specializes in combining poison and burning effects for massive damage. Many DOS 2 players are likely aware that poison and fire are a volatile combination, and can cause multiple explosions to hurt adversaries as well as inflict various status conditions.

However, on top of deadly spells and the boons granted by the Contamination Armor in Divinity Original Sin 2, Scrouge Wizards have access to the Torturer talent. This allows them to inflict poison, burning, and a few other status effects on targets through both physical and magical armor, meaning that there is often nothing most enemies can do to defend themselves.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, macOS, Nintendo Switch, and iPad.
